Twenty years ago little recorded knowledge was available for the way the human body works and its relationships to our working environments.
There were theories, suppositions, and the beginnings of fieldwork to test the stress and strain of certain types of work on the body.
At that time most of the testing was driven by current statistics that showed a high number of insurance claims relating to back injuries. This evidence led us to study how we perform certain tasks. Modifications to the way we work were suggested by OSHA and other organizations to begin addressing these issues.
Beginning around 1999 a higher number of injuries were reported in office situations relating to repetitive motion. This evidence led us to study how often we perform the same tasks and how stress on particular muscle groups can be reduced.
Our staff has been there all along and closely followed the study of ergonomics as it continues to advance in the US. In some European countries these studies have been in progress for over 70 years and we have used their knowledge to advance our own development. The strategy is to define the need, and by using sound ergonomic principles, determine the solution.
Product manufacturers have raced along in an attempt to create new and better equipment to meet the ever-increasing demand. Today there are hundreds of chairs that will “solve all your discomfort issues”. We have seen individuals spend their hard earned money on a chair that promises relief and, in the end, it just looks cool and delivers little. Our experience and expertise can help navigate through the hype to achieve the desired result.
Over the years we have been successful in the return of injured workers to productive employment. Our methods involve interviews with workers and their employers to determine the client specific needs and job requirements. We then form a plan outlining the proper equipment to deliver the desired results and test the suggested products, whenever possible, to prove the result.
As awareness of employee health, productivity and injury prevention has increased, we have been involved with organizations of all sizes to help improve working conditions. In many cases we have found that a single ergonomic tool and some proper training on body mechanics can make the difference.
We continue to grow in experience and document results. What we can say, without doubt, is that each situation is unique and solutions can be found.
